About Us In 2012

Reno Rainbow Fest is thrilled to announce the third annual event on Friday, July 27 and Saturday, July 28, 2012.

Reno Rainbow Fest joined Artown in 2011 and continues the relationship in 2012. Over 300,000 participants attended Artown's 17th annual festival in July 2011.

Rainbow Week has been established throughout the LGBT community during the annual Rainbow Fest as a celebration of equality in Reno. All Gay bars/nightclubs in Reno get caught up in Rainbow Week with Out & Proud parties to paint the town in rainbow colors.

Saturday's day long celebration will be held by the scenic Truckee River in downtown Wingfield Park where you can shop numerous exhibitor booths and sample a variety of delicious food.

Sensational all-day entertainment includes the return of the ever popular Reno Taiko Tsurunokai Drummers, Kaylah Marin, and many other fabulous artists.

Hang loose & let your hair down during Reno's well known Splash Pool Party featuring live music with talented artists and fun pool games.

RRF's promoters, Kaye Crawford and Shelly Palmer, have over 30 years of combined experience producing festivals. Our team members include:

  • Kaye was Reno Gay Pride's Founder and Promoter for thirteen years. The first Pride celebration took place in Reno in1997 bringing equality through visibility to the Gay Community.
  • Shelly Palmer owned and operated nightclubs for over 20 years. She is most well known for her many years as bar owner of the notorious "Bad Dollys" gay nightclub.
  • Jim Gerhard's skill and energy accomplished the difficult task of creating and maintaining our fabulous website.
  • We are pleased that Lori Fry has accepted the position as Entertainment Director. Lori's experience in assisting gay pride celebrations with top entertainment for years is notorious.

What is the history of the Rainbow Flag
and what do the colours mean?

The rainbow flag was first used to symbolize gay pride and diversity by San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker and the original was hand-dyed. It first flew in the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade on June 25, 1978. The flag consisted of eight stripes; Baker assigned specific meaning to each of the colours: hot pink - sex, red - life, orange - healing, yellow - sunlight, green - nature, turquoise - magic, blue - serenity, violet - spirit.
